The next Pentillie Festival of Speed is scheduled for 23rd and 24th August 2014.

Whilst we are not hosting the Festival this year, we would like to make some much needed improvements such as extending the competition hill to 1.2km (making it one of the longest hill climbs in England!), and creating a new corner in the hill climb track.

We do need investment and sponsorship to make these improvements, and enable the 2014 event to go ahead, so if you know of anyone that can help we’d love to hear from them!

Tel. Ted Coryton or Kate Pollard on 01579 351210 or email drive@pentilliefestivalofspeed.com.

After a successful Pentillie Festival of Speed, it is clear that there is an appetite for more motorsport events in Cornwall.

So vroom vroom!… we would love to host more bespoke events for car clubs, businesses and ‘petrol heads’ alike in 2013. We are thinking that car launches, rallies, motor club AGM’s and other social events might ‘tickle your pistons’. We are of course open to all ideas! The Castle also has luxury B&B accommodation giving guests the opportunity to enjoy a drink or two without worrying about the drive home.

If you are a car enthusiast, motor club or business and would like to host a motorsport event at Pentillie Castle please do get in touch. Tel. 01579 351210 or email drive@pentilliefestivalofspeed.com.

In the meantime if you haven’t already signed up to our Pentillie motor events newsletter, click on the red button link above.

Thank you to everyone who completed our online survey and sent us feedback. We have had really positive feedback and interesting suggestions on improvements, such as moving the competitors paddock to a flatter location and extending the start line to the Hornifast Paddock. A new and challenging corner could then be created. These changes would vastly improve the spectator experience, as would building a bridge over the hill, re-surfacing the paths, hardening the car park entrances and putting a track into what was the Display Car Park. All simple solutions, but also costly! We estimate that a bridge would cost around £20,000, and a track extension for the hill would be in the region of £30,000.

We are currently applying for a funding grant and looking at investment opportunities to make these improvements happen – fingers crossed! Of course any suggestions for funding or sponsorship would be welcome.

While the 2012 event was clearly a great success, and your feedback suggests that you want more, we want to improve the spectator and competitor experience and weather proof the event as far as possible before we attempt to host another Pentillie Festival of Speed. We are aiming for 2014!

We will keep you updated as things develop! Do keep an eye out for our other motoring events in the meantime and contact us to discuss any ideas you may have. Tel. 01579 351210.

With many thanks for all your support.

Over 6,500 people attended the first ever Pentillie Festival of Speed in the Tamar Valley, South East Cornwall, during the Bank Holiday Weekend.

Organisers have formally thanked competitors, volunteers, spectators and local residents for their huge support during the spectacular motoring event.

“It was a fantastic event,” said founder Ted Coryton, owner of Pentillie Castle, and founder of Pentlllie’s Festival of Speed. “The cars were terrific and the action exciting and exhilarating. A massive thanks to everyone took part including our wonderful team of volunteers, competitors – without which it couldn’t have happened – local residents, and of course the Plymouth Motor Club, who did a brilliant job at managing a brand new hill.

It was our first ever event and of course threw up challenges – not the least of which was the weather – but we look forward to listening to feedback and making next year’s even better.”

A stunning range of over 100 classic and modern cars vied to be fastest car to conquer the hill climb along the historic, waterside drive through the Cornish Estate.

Another 200 cars were on display including the classic Whistling Billy a 1905 steam powered racing car, a W196 Streamliner, and 1939 MX Derby Bentley, 1920 Silver Ghost Rolls Royce and a Mercedes SSL. Sponsors Vospers displayed an exciting range of 30 new cars including an MX5-GT Concept, and other event sponsors Roger Young Land Rover delighted visitors by taking them on demonstration runs through the woods, that after Saturday’s rain, were suitably muddy and challenging. Visitors were also delighted by a Subaru S12 World Rally Car, which used to be owned by Peta Solberg and driven by Steve Furzeland.

Fastest time of the day was Mike Lee who climbed the hill in a OMS 2000m in 35.65 seconds, with best lady driver’s performance by Jo Hodgson in a Lotus Elan, 41.65 seconds.

The first day attracted over 1000 people including Lord Bath and TV’s Caroline Quentin, with second day’s sunshine attracting much larger crowds who enjoyed the motor action along with scalextrix displays, archery, and clay pigeon shooting.

Phew! Well that was some weekend wasn’t it?

We’d like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped out over the weekend. Firstly, the Plymouth Motor Club who overcame the weather on Saturday to put on a fantastic hillclimb event on Sunday. We’ll never forget the sights, sounds and smells of the cars hurtling through the woods and past the Castle!

We also need to pay tribute to the marshals, the stewards, the medical teams, the recovery teams, the caterers, the volunteers, the staff, the trade stands and the attractions who made the event what it was. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Naturally we have to thank the competitors for the spectacle too!

But we also need to thank the spectators who visited throughout the weekend and helped provide the atmosphere a festival such as this requires.

The weather did its best to upset proceedings, but there’s no doubt that the sunshine on Sunday helped to provide a great day.

We know there were teething issues and we know there are areas where we could have done things better. We’d like to apologise to anyone for any inconvenience caused.

It’s now time to let the dust settle, catch our breath and decide what can be done in 2013. We’d value your constructive feedback on the matter, so please fill out our event survey alternatively, please use the form on our contact page.

Thank you.
