Introduction
For too long, the South West has lacked a motoring event that champions the thrill of driving, and has something to offer families and friends as well as the drivers. We thought it was about time this changed so in August 2012 we launched the inaugural Pentillie Festival of Speed.
Despite the weather’s best efforts to postpone the event, over 6,500 visitors came to the festival (the sun did eventually shine on the Sunday!) and enjoyed a fast paced hillclimb whilst viewing some stunning sports and vintage cars. Click here to see the full event video.
This bi-annual festival celebrates all that is good about fine cars and motorsport, set within the grand surroundings of Pentillie Castle & Estate, Cornwall. Centred on a competition hillclimb (run in association with the Plymouth Motor Club in 2012), cars race from the private quay on the banks of the River Tamar, via twisting hairpin bends and exhilarating straights, passing within metres of the majestic Castle.
The 2012 hillclimb course passed through the wonderful gardens of the Pentillie Estate which Ruth Watson of Channel 4’s Country House Rescue described as a National Treasure. The gardens form a natural backdrop to the hill, and allow us to create fabulous viewing opportunities that flank the course, with large viewing areas at the crucial corners, start and finish.
For the ‘quiet’ moments between races, there will be displays of ‘fine’ and historic cars on the lawns and many other adrenalin fuelled activities, such as laser clay-pigeon shooting, racing simulators, 4×4 off-roading, fast boats by the River Tamar and Giant Scalextric (at the 2012 event), that will satisfy even the most demanding petrolhead!
If speed machines are your thing, the Pentillie Festival of Speed is your event and this is your opportunity to be a part of it. Our long term aim is for the Festival of Speed to evolve into an event of national importance.
We anticipate that the Pentillie Festival of Speed will return in 2014.
